How to set up mac mail for your ES Consulting Group's  account

This tutorial describes how to use Apple's Mail.app included with Mac OS X with ES Consulting Group's POP3/SMTP or IMAP/SMTP e-mail accounts. This tutorial uses Mail version 3.3 which is included with OS X 10.5 (Leopard).

  1. When you start Mail the first time it will start the wizard for creating a new account. If it didn't automatically come up or you are adding a second email account to Mail go to File->Add Account to start the wizard. Type your name, email address, and password in to the appropriate boxes and click Continue. For this example we'll use a fictitious user 'John Smith' and his domain 'johnsmith.com'.

  2. Choose POP or IMAP as your account type. For this example we'll use POP. You can put whatever you'd like for the description, for this example we'll use 'My Email - Incoming.' The 'Incoming Mail Server' will be mail.YOURDOMAIN.com. The username will be your full email address.

  3. On the next screen check 'Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)' and set 'Authentication' to 'Password.'

  4. You can put whatever you'd like for the description, for this example we'll use 'My Email - Outgoing.' Your outgoing mail server will be mail.YOURDOMAIN.com. If you're only going to be using Mail for one account check 'Use only this server.' Check 'Use Authentication,' use your full email address for 'User Name', and enter your password.

  5. The next screen confirms everything we've set up. Go ahead and click create.
